Outcome of the analysis of emergency authorisations which have been granted in EU Member States AUTORIDAD EUROPEA DE SEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA: SUBVENCIONES/NOTICIAS/ADQUISCIONES

The analysis of all emergency authorisations issued by EU Member States over the past 10+ years is a preparatory action that supports the accomplishment of the objectives of the project and specifically the development of the inventory of alternatives control methods and the development of protocols for evaluation of emergency authorisation. All relevant information was sourced from the European Commission website. This extracted information was meticulously processed to create a format that facilitates filtering and presentation of results. The emergency authorisations were systematically analysed, sorted and grouped based on pest, crop and cropping system. The function of authorised formulations, the mode of action and the number of repeated emergency authorisations were considered in the analysis. Furthermore, a trend analysis was performed for identification of possible shifts in emergency needs over time. Between 2013 and 2024, a total of 4761 emergency authorisations were granted across EU Member States under Article 53, with the Southern zone accounting for the highest number of authorisations, followed by the Central zone and the Northern zone. The annual number of authorisations typically ranged between 620 and 720. Authorisations were most frequently issued for insecticides (37.6%), fungicides (20.5%), and herbicides (18.9%), with a smaller proportion involving multi‐functional products (5.7%). A significant proportion (77%) of emergency authorisations were repeated over multiple years.
