Este descubrimiento podr\u00eda tener aplicaciones en la prevenci\u00f3n de met\u00e1stasis<\/p>\n<p>Investigadores del Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (CNIC) en colaboraci\u00f3n con el Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Barcelona (IRB Barcelona) han descubierto una\u00a0nueva estrategia\u00a0de inmunoterapia que reduce la recurrencia del c\u00e1ncer en modelos experimentales en rat\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Este descubrimiento podr\u00eda tener aplicaciones en la prevenci\u00f3n de met\u00e1stasis<\/p>\n<p>Las\u00a0c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas\u00a0act\u00faan como centinelas del sistema inmunitario, siendo las encargadas de presentar los ant\u00edgenos tumorales a los linfocitos T y desencadenar la respuesta contra las c\u00e9lulas malignas.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, existen diversos subtipos de estas c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas, y hasta ahora no se hab\u00eda determinado con precisi\u00f3n cu\u00e1l de ellos es el m\u00e1s eficiente en generar una respuesta sostenida y protectora frente al tumor.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Una terapia m\u00e1s focalizada<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cEl hallazgo es relevante porque la mayor\u00eda de las terapias actuales se centran en potenciar la inmunidad ya existente\u201d, asegura Ignacio Heras-Murillo, investigador del CNIC y primer autor del trabajo. \u201cEn cambio, esta inmunoterapia con c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas busca iniciar una nueva respuesta inmunitaria espec\u00edfica frente al tumor\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Las c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas tipo I inducen una memoria inmunitaria duradera que podr\u00eda prevenir la reaparici\u00f3n tumoral<\/p>\n<p>Stefanie Wculek, cosupervisora del trabajo inicialmente en CNIC y ahora en IRB Barcelona, explica que la estrategia desarrollada consiste en extraer c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas del paciente, cargarlas con ant\u00edgenos derivados del tumor y reintroducirlas en el organismo para activar linfocitos T espec\u00edficos.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio ha identificado que las c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas de tipo I no solo desencadenan una respuesta efectora inmediata contra el tumor primario, sino que tambi\u00e9n inducen una memoria inmunitaria duradera que podr\u00eda prevenir la reaparici\u00f3n tumoral.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Contra las reca\u00eddas y la met\u00e1stasis<\/h2>\n<p>David Sancho, director del proyecto en el CNIC, agrega que esta investigaci\u00f3n muestra en ratones que la inmunoterapia con c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas de tipo I que presentan el ant\u00edgeno tumoral genera una respuesta de memoria inmunitaria que previene el crecimiento de un segundo tumor similar, es decir, que evita la reca\u00edda tumoral.<\/p>\n<p>El mismo investigador agrega que para determinar su potencial en la prevenci\u00f3n de met\u00e1stasis y su posible sinergia con otros tratamientos de terapia antitumoral har\u00e1n falta m\u00e1s estudios.<\/p>\n<p>Este proyecto ha recibido financiaci\u00f3n del CNIC y el Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovaci\u00f3n y Universidades (MICIU).
