El trabajo, publicado en\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1038\/s41586-025-08946-8\" target=\"_blank\">Nature<\/a>, destaca el gran aumento de arbustos y gram\u00edneas y la disminuci\u00f3n de plantas con flores, que luchan por crecer bajo la sombra de plantas m\u00e1s altas.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan los expertos, estos cambios en la vegetaci\u00f3n son se\u00f1ales de alerta de transformaciones mucho m\u00e1s grandes que podr\u00edan afectar a animales, comunidades humanas e incluso al sistema global que regula el carbono del planeta.<\/p>\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n, financiada por la Uni\u00f3n Europea y el Natural Environment Research Council, entre otros, ha contado con un equipo de 54 investigadores que ha analizado m\u00e1s de 42.000 observaciones de campo de 2.174 parcelas para crear una base de datos sobre la diversidad de plantas \u00e1rticas, que ser\u00e1 esencial para comprender los futuros cambios en las zonas m\u00e1s fr\u00edas del planeta.<\/p>\n<p>Las muestras provienen desde la tundra del \u00c1rtico canadiense y Svalbard hasta zonas de matorrales por encima del l\u00edmite arb\u00f3reo de\u00a0Alaska, Canad\u00e1 y Fennoscandia\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Las muestras provienen desde la tundra del \u00c1rtico canadiense y Svalbard hasta zonas de matorrales por encima del l\u00edmite arb\u00f3reo de Alaska, Canad\u00e1 y Fennoscandia (Finlandia, Suecia, Noruega y Dinamarca).<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Borealizaci\u00f3n&#8217; del \u00c1rtico<\/h2>\n<p>El estudio concluye que los principales factores de estos cambios en la biodiversidad son el aumento de las temperaturas y la competencia entre especies de plantas. En este sentido, el investigador del CSIC en el IBB,\u00a0Pep Serra, destaca que este trabajo \u201crompe con algunas predicciones simplificadas de los efectos del cambio clim\u00e1tico en los ecosistemas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Serra explica que, a veces, \u201cse asume que el aumento de la temperatura simplemente desplaza ecosistemas m\u00e1s c\u00e1lidos hacia zonas fr\u00edas. Los ecosistemas de tundra pueden albergar decenas de especies vegetales en un metro cuadrado\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>La investigadora a\u00f1ade que \u201clas temperaturas m\u00e1s c\u00e1lidas est\u00e1n trayendo m\u00e1s especies, pero no en todas partes. Los arbustos est\u00e1n remodelando los ecosistemas \u00e1rticos, ya que a menudo provocan un descenso de la biodiversidad, aunque no siempre. Pero donde empezaron a dominar los arbustos, la biodiversidad disminuy\u00f3. En conjunto, nuestro estudio indica que la biodiversidad puede seguir trayectorias divergentes en un \u00c1rtico que se calienta r\u00e1pidamente\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>El profesor em\u00e9rito\u00a0Greg Henry, del Departamento de Geograf\u00eda de la Universidad de Columbia Brit\u00e1nica (Canad\u00e1), concluye: \u201cNecesitamos investigar a largo plazo para comprender el \u00c1rtico, ya que el cambio de los ecosistemas empieza por las plantas.
