Los nuevos resultados, liderados por el Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (CNIC) y publicados en la revista Nature, han identificado que un metabolito generado por bacterias intestinales, el propionato de imidazol (ImP), se detecta en sangre de modo temprano en la aterosclerosis activa.<\/p>\n<p>Este metabolito, \u201cest\u00e1 producido exclusivamente por bacterias del intestino\u201d, explica Annalaura Mastrangelo, investigadora del CNIC y primera autora del estudio. \u201cEn este trabajo hemos visto que su presencia en sangre se relaciona con el desarrollo de aterosclerosis activa en personas aparentemente sanas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Lo relevante de este hallazgo, destaca Mastrangelo, es que \u201cdetectar este marcador en sangre representa una gran ventaja, dado que las pruebas actuales requieren t\u00e9cnicas de imagen avanzada complejas y costosas que no est\u00e1n cubiertas por la seguridad social. Los niveles de ImP en sangre ofrecen un marcador con valor diagn\u00f3stico para facilitar la identificaci\u00f3n de personas sanas que tienen aterosclerosis activa y posibilitar su tratamiento temprano\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Causante de la enfermedad<\/h2>\n<p>Pero el hallazgo va m\u00e1s all\u00e1. I\u00f1aki Robles-Vera, tambi\u00e9n primer autor del estudio, a\u00f1ade: \u201cNo solo observamos que el ImP est\u00e1 elevado en personas con aterosclerosis, sino que es un agente causal de la enfermedad. El consumo de ImP provoc\u00f3 la aparici\u00f3n de placas en las arterias en modelos animales de aterosclerosis\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>David Sancho, jefe del laboratorio de Inmunobiolog\u00eda y l\u00edder del estudio, se\u00f1ala que se ha observado que el uso de bloqueantes del receptor I1R, que colabora con ImP, previene la inducci\u00f3n de aterosclerosis y reduce la progresi\u00f3n de esta en modelos de rat\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.agenciasinc.es\/bundles\/app\/images\/quotebefore.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Este es un hallazgo para el diagn\u00f3stico precoz y el\u00a0tratamiento personalizado\u00a0y temprano de la aterosclerosis<\/p>\n<p>David Sancho, CNIC<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.agenciasinc.es\/bundles\/app\/images\/quoteafter.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEsto abre la posibilidad futura de un tratamiento combinado del bloqueo de I1R junto al de la producci\u00f3n de colesterol\u201d, asegura Sancho.<\/p>\n<p>Estos hallazgos, agrega, \u201ces un hallazgo para el diagn\u00f3stico precoz y el tratamiento personalizado y temprano de la aterosclerosis. As\u00ed, en lugar de centrarse \u00fanicamente en el colesterol y otros factores cl\u00e1sicos, se podr\u00eda en el futuro analizar la presencia de ImP en sangre como se\u00f1al de riesgo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Este trabajo ha sido liderado por el CNIC pero representa una colaboraci\u00f3n global a nivel nacional e internacional, con la participaci\u00f3n de instituciones, entre otras, del Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai en Nueva York (EEUU); Instituto de investigaci\u00f3n Sanitaria Fundaci\u00f3n Jim\u00e9nez D\u00edaz; Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid y el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n biom\u00e9dica en red de enfermedades cardiovasculares (CIBER-CV).<\/p>\n<p>Mastrangelo, A., Robles-Vera, I., Ma\u00f1anes, D.
