El f\u00edsico alem\u00e1n Rainer Weiss, premio Nobel de F\u00edsica y Princesa de Asturias<\/a> de Investigaci\u00f3n Cient\u00edfica y T\u00e9cnica 2017, ha fallecido a los 93 a\u00f1os, seg\u00fan ha comunicado este mi\u00e9rcoles la Fundaci\u00f3n Princesa de Asturias.<\/p>\n

\u201cLamentamos muy sinceramente el fallecimiento\u201d de Weiss, ha afirmado la directora de fundaci\u00f3n, Teresa Sanjurjo, en una nota, en la que destaca que el f\u00edsico fue pionero en la medici\u00f3n del espectro de radiaci\u00f3n del fondo c\u00f3smico de microondas y cofundador de la misi\u00f3n COBE.<\/p>\n

Asimismo, Sanjunjo ha indicado que Weiss fue profesor del MIT, donde hab\u00eda estudiado F\u00edsica y se hab\u00eda doctorado en 1962.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n ha destacado que, especializado en las posibilidades de la ciencia para medir y observar las ondas gravitacionales, aport\u00f3 \u201cestudios e investigaciones\u201d que han sido \u201cfundamentales\u201d para el desarrollo y la profundizaci\u00f3n del conocimiento cient\u00edfico y la comprensi\u00f3n y an\u00e1lisis del Universo.<\/p>\n

El jurado de los Premios Princesa de Asturias concedi\u00f3 el premio a Weiss junto a los tambi\u00e9n f\u00edsicos Kip Thorne y Ronald Drever, que propusieron en los a\u00f1os ochenta la construcci\u00f3n del Observatorio de Interferometr\u00eda L\u00e1ser de Ondas Gravitacionales (LIGO, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
