Este bioingeniero de la Universidad de Pensilvania ha probado de todo, desde prote\u00ednas neandertales a bacterias extrem\u00f3filas, tratando de encontrar soluciones.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora, la inteligencia artificial generativa (GenAI, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) podr\u00eda convertirse en una aliada clave para combatir una de las mayores amenazas para la salud global: la resistencia a los antibi\u00f3ticos. Un nuevo estudio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agenciasinc.es\/esl\/Noticias\/10.1016\/j.celbio.2025.100183%20\" target=\"_blank\">publicado esta semana<\/a> en Cell Biomaterials, presenta una herramienta de IA bautizada como\u00a0AMP-Diffusion\u00a0que es capaz de dise\u00f1ar mol\u00e9culas antibacterianas in\u00e9ditas, con potencial terap\u00e9utico probado en modelos animales.<\/p>\n<p>El trabajo es fruto de la colaboraci\u00f3n entre los laboratorios de Pranam Chatterjee y De la Fuente, uno especialista en dise\u00f1o molecular y el segundo en inteligencia artificial aplicada a la b\u00fasqueda de nuevos antibi\u00f3ticos. Mientras que investigaciones previas hab\u00edan demostrado que la IA puede analizar grandes cantidades de datos para encontrar candidatos prometedores, este estudio da un paso m\u00e1s all\u00e1: crear desde cero mol\u00e9culas que la naturaleza nunca ha producido.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio va un paso m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de analizar datos para encontrar candidatos:\u00a0crea desde cero mol\u00e9culas que la naturaleza nunca ha producido<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl conjunto de datos de la naturaleza es finito; con la IA podemos dise\u00f1ar antibi\u00f3ticos que la evoluci\u00f3n nunca intent\u00f3\u201d, afirma De la Fuente, profesor en Bioingenier\u00eda, Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica y Biomolecular, Psiquiatr\u00eda y Microbiolog\u00eda en la universidad estadounidense.<\/p>\n<p>Por su parte, Chatterjee, profesor en Bioingenier\u00eda e Inform\u00e1tica, a\u00f1ade que \u201cestamos aprovechando los mismos algoritmos de IA que generan im\u00e1genes, pero adapt\u00e1ndolos para dise\u00f1ar nuevas mol\u00e9culas potentes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>De im\u00e1genes y ruido a mol\u00e9culas antibacterianas<\/h2>\n<p>AMP-Diffusion utiliza un tipo de IA conocido como modelo de difusi\u00f3n, el mismo principio que emplean herramientas como DALL\u00b7E o Stable Diffusion para crear im\u00e1genes a partir de los prompts que los usuarios introducen. En lugar de \u201cdesenmascarar\u201d p\u00edxeles, este modelo refina secuencias de amino\u00e1cidos hasta obtener p\u00e9ptidos con potencial antimicrobiano.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEs casi como sintonizar la radio\u201d, se\u00f1ala De la Fuente. \u201cEmpiezas con sonido est\u00e1tico y, finalmente, emerge la melod\u00eda\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>La clave est\u00e1 en su integraci\u00f3n con ESM-2, un modelo de lenguaje para prote\u00ednas desarrollado por Meta y entrenado con cientos de millones de secuencias naturales. Gracias a esta base, la herramienta\u00a0no necesita aprender desde cero las reglas de la biolog\u00eda, lo que acelera el dise\u00f1o y aumenta la probabilidad de \u00e9xito de las mol\u00e9culas generadas.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>De 50.000 candidatos a dos promesas<\/h2>\n<p>El modelo gener\u00f3 unas 50.000 secuencias candidatas. Para seleccionar las m\u00e1s prometedoras, el equipo utiliz\u00f3 otra herramienta de IA desarrollada por el laboratorio del investigador espa\u00f1ol, que filtra mol\u00e9culas seg\u00fan su potencial antibacteriano, su novedad estructural y su diversidad qu\u00edmica.<\/p>\n<p>Tras este cribado, se sintetizaron 46 candidatos que fueron probados en c\u00e9lulas humanas y en modelos animales.
