Ahora, un nuevo estudio internacional\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1073\/pnas.2423973122\" target=\"_blank\">publicado<\/a> en Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) ha identificado el mecanismo que explica este fen\u00f3meno y se\u00f1ala un posible objetivo para futuras terapias.<\/p>\n<p>La inhibici\u00f3n de ApoD podr\u00eda atenuar la gravedad de la enfermedad en personas mayores y reducir de forma significativa la morbilidad y mortalidad asociadas<\/p>\n<p>El trabajo, realizado por investigadores de la Universidad de Nottingham (Reino Unido), revela que, con la edad, los pulmones producen niveles muy elevados de una prote\u00edna llamada apolipoprote\u00edna D (bautizada como ApoD), implicada en el metabolismo de l\u00edpidos y la inflamaci\u00f3n. Esta acumulaci\u00f3n excesiva de ApoD reduce la capacidad de resistencia frente a la infecci\u00f3n viral y favorece da\u00f1os tisulares en el pulm\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan los investigadores, la prote\u00edna interfiere en la activaci\u00f3n de la respuesta antiviral del organismo al provocar la destrucci\u00f3n de las mitocondrias (un proceso conocido como mitofagia).
