La investigaci\u00f3n, publicada en la revista cient\u00edfica iScience y basada en modelos animales, ha demostrado que esta intervenci\u00f3n no farmacol\u00f3gica \u201cretrasa el deterioro cognitivo\u201d.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, ha revelado diferencias entre sexos que apuntan a la necesidad de adaptar las estrategias terap\u00e9uticas con perspectiva de g\u00e9nero.<\/p>\n

Principal causa de demencia en el mundo<\/h2>\n

La enfermedad de Alzheimer, principal causa de demencia en el mundo, se caracteriza por un deterioro progresivo e irreversible de la memoria y otras funciones cognitivas y actualmente carece de tratamientos curativos eficaces.<\/p>\n

Los autores han sometido a los animales a un entrenamiento cognitivo repetido a lo largo de la vida y han evaluado luego su funci\u00f3n cerebral mediante resonancia magn\u00e9tica en reposo, pruebas conductuales de memoria y an\u00e1lisis moleculares y celulares<\/p>\n

Ante esta situaci\u00f3n, la comunidad cient\u00edfica ha explorado \u201cestrategias preventivas\u201d que fortalezcan la llamada \u201creserva cognitiva\u201d, la capacidad del cerebro para mantener su funcionamiento pese a la presencia de enfermedades o lesiones neuropatol\u00f3gicas.<\/p>\n

El estudio ha analizado si la estimulaci\u00f3n cognitiva sostenida, iniciada antes de la aparici\u00f3n de la patolog\u00eda amiloide t\u00edpica del alzh\u00e9imer, podr\u00eda aumentar la \u201cresiliencia cerebral\u201d frente a la enfermedad.<\/p>\n

Para ello, los investigadores han sometido a modelos animales a un entrenamiento cognitivo repetido a lo largo de toda la vida y han evaluado posteriormente su funci\u00f3n cerebral mediante resonancia magn\u00e9tica en reposo, pruebas conductuales de memoria y an\u00e1lisis moleculares y celulares.<\/p>\n

Mejoras en memoria<\/h2>\n

Los resultados han demostrado que \u201clos animales entrenados preservaron mejor la memoria y la conectividad funcional\u201d entre regiones clave como la corteza entorrinal y el hipocampo, \u00e1reas especialmente vulnerables en el alzh\u00e9imer.<\/p>\n

La investigadora que ha liderado el trabajo, Guadalupe Soria, ha explicado que \u201cla preservaci\u00f3n de la conectividad cerebral (en los animales entrenados) se asocia a un mejor rendimiento de la memoria en edades m\u00e1s avanzadas\u201d.<\/p>\n
