Suelen combinarse en grupos de dos o tres para formar mesones y bariones, respectivamente.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Part\u00edculas inestables y de vida muy corta<\/h2>\n<p>A diferencia del prot\u00f3n estable, la mayor\u00eda de estos mesones y bariones \u2014conocidos colectivamente como hadrones\u2014 son inestables y de vida muy corta, lo que dificulta su observaci\u00f3n. Para producirlos es necesario hacer colisionar part\u00edculas de alta energ\u00eda en una m\u00e1quina como el LHC. Este quark up es la \u00fanica diferencia con la nueva part\u00edcula, que incorpora un quark down en su lugar. A pesar de su similitud, la nueva part\u00edcula tiene una vida media prevista hasta seis veces m\u00e1s corta que la anterior debido a efectos cu\u00e1nticos complejos, lo que hace a\u00fan m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil su observaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Al analizar datos de colisiones prot\u00f3n-prot\u00f3n registrados por el detector LHCb durante la tercera fase de funcionamiento del LHC, la colaboraci\u00f3n LHCb observ\u00f3 el nuevo bari\u00f3n con una significaci\u00f3n estad\u00edstica de 7 sigma, muy por encima del umbral de 5 sigma necesario para declarar un descubrimiento.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEste resultado es un ejemplo fant\u00e1stico de c\u00f3mo las capacidades \u00fanicas de LHCb desempe\u00f1an un papel vital en el \u00e9xito del LHC\u201d, se\u00f1ala Mark Thomson, director general del CERN. \u201cDemuestra c\u00f3mo las mejoras experimentales en el CERN conducen directamente a nuevos descubrimientos y sientan las bases de la ciencia transformadora que esperamos del LHC de alta luminosidad.
