Rubin\u00a0ha comenzado las observaciones del programa Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). A lo largo de la pr\u00f3xima d\u00e9cada observar\u00e1 repetidamente el\u00a0cielo austral para estudiar la materia y la energ\u00eda oscuras, descubrir millones de fen\u00f3menos transitorios y elaborar el mayor mapa din\u00e1mico del universo hasta la fecha.<\/p>\n<p>Al finalizar el proyecto habr\u00e1 observado cada regi\u00f3n del cielo unas 800 veces. Cada noche generar\u00e1 alrededor de diez terabytes de datos y hasta siete millones de alertas autom\u00e1ticas sobre cambios\u00a0 en el firmamento<\/p>\n<p>El observatorio combina un amplio campo de visi\u00f3n con la mayor c\u00e1mara digital jam\u00e1s construida, de 3 200 megap\u00edxeles, capaz de obtener una imagen aproximadamente cada 40 segundos.<\/p>\n<p>Al finalizar el proyecto habr\u00e1 observado cada regi\u00f3n del cielo unas 800 veces. Cada noche generar\u00e1 alrededor de diez terabytes de datos y hasta siete millones de alertas autom\u00e1ticas sobre cambios detectados en el firmamento, lo que permitir\u00e1 a la comunidad cient\u00edfica responder con rapidez a nuevos fen\u00f3menos astron\u00f3micos.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Participaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola<\/h2>\n<p>Espa\u00f1a participa en el LSST a trav\u00e9s del Centro de Investigaciones Energ\u00e9ticas, Medioambientales y Tecnol\u00f3gicas (CIEMAT), el Institut de F\u00edsica d&#8217;Altes Energies (IFAE), el Instituto de Astrof\u00edsica de Canarias (IAC), el Instituto de Ciencias del Espacio (ICE-CSIC), el Instituto de F\u00edsica Te\u00f3rica (IFT-UAM\/CSIC) y el Port d&#8217;Informaci\u00f3 Cient\u00edfica (PIC). Los equipos espa\u00f1oles han contribuido a la puesta en marcha del observatorio, el desarrollo de software, el acceso y procesamiento de los datos y su explotaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica en \u00e1reas como la cosmolog\u00eda, la materia y la energ\u00eda oscuras o el estudio de fen\u00f3menos transitorios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLSST puede entenderse como la continuaci\u00f3n natural del Dark Energy Survey (DES), en el que los grupos espa\u00f1oles hemos participado durante los \u00faltimos 20 a\u00f1os. Sin embargo, este cartografiado ser\u00e1 mucho m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido, amplio y profundo\u201d, afirma Ramon Miquel, investigador del IFAE. A su juicio, el proyecto supondr\u00e1 \u201cuna aut\u00e9ntica revoluci\u00f3n para la cosmolog\u00eda observacional\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Diez a\u00f1os de observaciones<\/h2>\n<p>El cartografiado permitir\u00e1 seguir la evoluci\u00f3n del universo como nunca antes. Rubin detectar\u00e1 estrellas variables, explosiones de supernovas, agujeros negros activos, colisiones entre objetos compactos y otros fen\u00f3menos transitorios, adem\u00e1s de aportar nuevas pistas sobre la materia y la energ\u00eda oscuras. Tambi\u00e9n impulsar\u00e1 la astronom\u00eda multimensajero al facilitar el seguimiento de estos eventos desde observatorios de todo el mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Durante apenas un mes y medio de observaciones de optimizaci\u00f3n ya ha identificado m\u00e1s de 11 000 asteroides hasta entonces desconocidos, entre ellos 33 objetos cercanos a la Tierra y 380 objetos transneptunianos<\/p>\n<p>El observatorio ser\u00e1 adem\u00e1s una herramienta clave para descubrir nuevos cuerpos del Sistema Solar. Durante apenas un mes y medio de observaciones de optimizaci\u00f3n ya ha identificado m\u00e1s de 11 000 asteroides hasta entonces desconocidos, entre ellos 33 objetos cercanos a la Tierra y 380 objetos transneptunianos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCon LSST empezamos un tipo de exploraci\u00f3n del universo a una escala in\u00e9dita.
