Un equipo internacional ha utilizado el Very Large Telescope (VLT) del Observatorio Europeo Austral (ESO) para analizar por primera vez con este nivel de detalle la composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de un cometa procedente de fuera del Sistema Solar.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados, publicados en\u00a0Nature Astronomy, indican que este objeto helado se form\u00f3 probablemente en las regiones exteriores de un antiguo sistema estelar, alrededor de una estrella de baja metalicidad, es decir, con escasa abundancia de elementos m\u00e1s pesados que el helio.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.agenciasinc.es\/bundles\/app\/images\/quotebefore.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Los cometas interestelares son una especie de f\u00f3siles de un proceso de formaci\u00f3n planetaria que ocurri\u00f3 muy lejos, pero que tenemos la oportunidad de estudiar desde mucho m\u00e1s cerca<\/p>\n<p>Cyrielle Opitom (Universidad de Edimburgo) ino Unido),<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.agenciasinc.es\/bundles\/app\/images\/quoteafter.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLos cometas interestelares son una especie de f\u00f3siles de un proceso de formaci\u00f3n planetaria que ocurri\u00f3 muy lejos, pero que tenemos la oportunidad de estudiar desde mucho m\u00e1s cerca\u201d, afirma Cyrielle Opitom, astr\u00f3noma de la Universidad de Edimburgo (Reino Unido), que ha liderado el estudio junto con\u00a0Jean Manfroid y Damien Hutsem\u00e9kers, de la Universidad de Lieja (B\u00e9lgica). A diferencia de estos dos visitantes, su gran brillo ha permitido obtener las primeras mediciones de las proporciones isot\u00f3picas de un cometa formado fuera del sistema solar.<\/p>\n<p>El brillo de 3I\/ATLAS, el tercer objeto interestelar identificado hasta la fecha, ha permitido medir por primera vez las proporciones isot\u00f3picas de un cometa formado fuera del sistema solar<\/p>\n<p>Para ello, el equipo emple\u00f3 el instrumento UVES del VLT, con el que midi\u00f3 las proporciones de los is\u00f3topos de carbono y nitr\u00f3geno presentes en las mol\u00e9culas de cianuro del gas que rodea al cometa. Estas proporciones apenas cambian durante el viaje del objeto por el espacio y conservan informaci\u00f3n sobre las condiciones en las que se form\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA diferencia de los cometas de nuestro Sistema Solar, este visitante interestelar lleva proporciones isot\u00f3picas inusualmente altas de carbono y nitr\u00f3geno\u201d, explica Aravind Krishnakumar, investigador de la Universidad de Lieja y coautor del estudio.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados coinciden con otro trabajo reciente realizado con el telescopio espacial James Webb, que tambi\u00e9n detect\u00f3 una proporci\u00f3n isot\u00f3pica elevada de carbono y altos niveles de deuterio \u2014o hidr\u00f3geno pesado\u2014 en 3I\/ATLAS.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Un visitante de otro tiempo<\/h2>\n<p>En conjunto, las evidencias apuntan a que el cometa naci\u00f3 alrededor de una estrella formada cuando el universo era mucho m\u00e1s joven y conten\u00eda menos elementos pesados que en la actualidad. El futuro Telescopio Extremadamente Grande (ELT) de ESO permitir\u00e1 realizar este tipo de mediciones en nuevos objetos interestelares, incluso si son menos brillantes que 3I\/ATLAS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl campo de los objetos interestelares es a\u00fan muy reciente, y realmente no sabemos qu\u00e9 esperar.
