Al analizar qu\u00e9 virus estaban integrados en el genoma de la bacteria Acinetobacter baumannii, descubrimos la batalla entre estos dos virus\u201d, explica el profesor de la UPO Antonio J. P\u00e9rez Pulido, investigador principal del estudio.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Lucha contra superbacterias<\/h2>\n<p>Acinetobacter baumannii es considerada una amenaza prioritaria por la OMS debido a su resistencia a todos los antibi\u00f3ticos disponibles en el mercado y su papel en infecciones hospitalarias graves. En este contexto, la fagoterapia, una estrategia que utiliza virus para combatir bacterias, est\u00e1 ganando inter\u00e9s. As\u00ed, este estudio aporta un nuevo conocimiento sobre c\u00f3mo los bacteri\u00f3fagos interact\u00faan entre s\u00ed y con su hospedador.<\/p>\n<p>Acinetobacter baumannii\u00a0es considerada una amenaza por la OMS debido a su resistencia a todos los antibi\u00f3ticos disponibles y su papel en infecciones hospitalarias graves<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Sistema CRISPR Cas<\/h2>\n<p>El virus \u2018Terminator\u2019 emplea un sistema CRISPR Cas, un mecanismo antiviral altamente eficiente, para bloquear las infecciones por parte del virus DgiS1. Por otro lado, DgiS1 responde con mutaciones en su genoma que lo hacen resistente al ataque de \u2018Terminator\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Estos enfrentamientos tienen lugar en una regi\u00f3n espec\u00edfica del genoma bacteriano conocida como \u201carchipi\u00e9lago de defensa\u201d, un arsenal de genes antivirales aparentemente movilizados por los propios virus.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>\u00c9xito evolutivo y relevancia cl\u00ednica<\/h2>\n<p>El equipo de UPOBioinfo ha encontrado que el virus DgiS1 prevalece en m\u00e1s de la mitad de los genomas analizados de A. baumannii.
