Nuevos an\u00e1lisis de sedimentos realizados en el yacimiento de B\u00e9t\u00e9 I, en Costa de Marfil, indican que el Homo sapiens habit\u00f3 selvas tropicales de \u00c1frica Occidental hace al menos 150000 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

Hasta ahora, la prueba m\u00e1s antigua confirmada de presencia humana en estos entornos databa de hace 18000 a\u00f1os, mientras que en el sudeste asi\u00e1tico se hab\u00eda documentado hace 70000 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

La investigaci\u00f3n ha contado con la participaci\u00f3n de cient\u00edficos del Centro Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n sobre la Evoluci\u00f3n Humana (CENIEH) de Burgos, responsables de los an\u00e1lisis de dataci\u00f3n por Resonancia de Esp\u00edn Electr\u00f3nico (ESR).<\/p>\n

La investigaci\u00f3n, cuyos resultados se han publicado esta semana en la revista\u00a0Nature,\u00a0han sido clave para precisar la antig\u00fcedad de los restos y confirmar que el entorno era un bosque denso y h\u00famedo, no una franja de vegetaci\u00f3n espor\u00e1dica.<\/p>\n

Yacimiento de B\u00e9t\u00e9 I<\/h2>\n

El yacimiento de B\u00e9t\u00e9 I fue excavado por primera vez en los a\u00f1os 80 por\u00a0Yod\u00e9 Gu\u00e9d\u00e9, de la Universidad F\u00e9lix Houphou\u00ebt-Boigny. En 2020, un equipo liderado por Eleanor Scerri, del Instituto Max Planck, reanaliz\u00f3 el sitio antes de que fuera destruido por la actividad minera. \u00abSab\u00edamos que era la mejor oportunidad para determinar desde cu\u00e1ndo los humanos viv\u00edan en la selva\u00bb, afirma Scerri.<\/p>\n

Los autores tambi\u00e9n investigaron restos vegetales, polen y fitolitos presentes en los sedimentos, confirmando que el paisaje en aquella \u00e9poca era una selva densa, similar a las actuales. \u00abLas pruebas convergentes confirman que la diversidad ecol\u00f3gica fue clave en la evoluci\u00f3n de nuestra especie\u00bb, se\u00f1ala Scerri. \u00abDistintas poblaciones de Homo sapiens coexistieron en diferentes h\u00e1bitats; intercambiaron conocimientos y se adaptaron a entornos diversos\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Este descubrimiento no solo redefine el conocimiento sobre la evoluci\u00f3n humana en \u00c1frica, sino que plantea nuevas preguntas sobre c\u00f3mo los humanos han influido en los ecosistemas a lo largo del tiempo.<\/p>\n

Los investigadores planean analizar otros yacimientos en la regi\u00f3n para seguir reconstruyendo la historia de las primeras poblaciones humanas en la selva tropical.<\/p>\n
