For animals and meat, AMR data on indicator commensal <em>Escherichia coli<\/em>, presumptive extended\u2010spectrum beta\u2010lactamase (ESBL)\u2010\/AmpC beta\u2010lactamase (AmpC)\u2212\/carbapenemase (CP)\u2010producing <em>E. coli<\/em> and the occurrence of methicillin\u2010resistant <em>Staphylococcus aureus<\/em> (MRSA) are also analysed. Generally, resistance differed greatly between reporting countries and antimicrobials. A high proportion of <em>Salmonella<\/em> spp. and <em>Campylobacter<\/em> isolates from humans and animals were resistant to commonly used antimicrobials (ampicillin, tetracycline and sulfonamides) in human and veterinary medicine, although <em>Salmonella<\/em> isolates from laying hens exhibited lower resistance. In humans, increasing trends in resistance to ciprofloxacin, one of two critically important antimicrobials (CIA) for human treatment, were observed in poultry\u2010associated <em>Salmonella<\/em> serovars and in <em>Campylobacter<\/em>, in several reporting countries. Combined resistance to CIA was however observed in a low proportion of isolates except for some <em>Salmonella<\/em> serovars and C. coli from humans and animals in some countries. In imported fresh meat of broilers and turkeys sampled at border control posts, resistance to third\u2010generation cephalosporins was observed respectively at very high and moderate levels in <em>Salmonella<\/em> and indicator <em>E. coli<\/em>. While CP\u2010producing <em>Salmonella<\/em> isolates were not detected in animals in 2022\u20132023, five human cases of CP\u2010producing <em>Salmonella<\/em> were reported in 2022 and six cases in 2023 (the majority harbouring bla<sub>OXA\u201048<\/sub> or bla<sub>OXA\u201048<\/sub>\u2010like genes). Detection of CP\u2010producing <em>E. coli<\/em> isolates (carrying bla<sub>OXA\u201048<\/sub>, bla<sub>OXA\u2010181<\/sub>, bla<sub>OXA\u2010244,<\/sub> bla<sub>NDM\u20105<\/sub> and bla<sub>VIM\u20101<\/sub> genes) in broilers, fattening turkeys, fattening pigs, cattle under 1 year of age and meat from pigs by seven member states (MSs) in 2022 and 2023, requires a thorough follow\u2010up.
