Esta limitaci\u00f3n no solo afecta la calidad de vida del paciente, sino que tambi\u00e9n supone una carga significativa para el sistema sanitario.<\/p>\n<p>Para afrontar el reto de desarrollar\u00a0pr\u00f3tesis m\u00e1s fiables y duraderas, un equipo de investigadores del Centro de Tecnolog\u00eda Biom\u00e9dica (CTB-UPM) de la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Madrid (UPM), en colaboraci\u00f3n con la spin-off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bioactivesurfaces.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bioactive Surfaces<\/a>, ha creado una nueva generaci\u00f3n de implantes de titanio.<\/p>\n<p>El proceso R-THAB\u00ae permite fijar mol\u00e9culas bioactivas al titanio para mejorar su integraci\u00f3n \u00f3sea<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mediante el proceso R-THAB\u00ae, un amplio rango de mol\u00e9culas con actividad biol\u00f3gica puede adherirse a la superficie del titanio, lo que favorece una mejor integraci\u00f3n del implante con el hueso. Estos resultados representan una estrategia prometedora para mejorar la biocompatibilidad de los biomateriales met\u00e1licos y avanzar en las terapias de reemplazo de tejido \u00f3seo en trastornos esquel\u00e9ticos.<\/p>\n<p>El trabajo ha sido liderado por Jos\u00e9 P\u00e9rez Rigueiro, del Laboratorio de Biomateriales e Ingenier\u00eda Regenerativa del CTB-UPM, con el objetivo de desarrollar pr\u00f3tesis que optimicen la respuesta del cuerpo al implante. Para ello, el equipo ha modificado la superficie del titanio mediante el proceso R-THAB\u00ae y le ha incorporado mol\u00e9culas con actividad biol\u00f3gica (p\u00e9ptidos), seleccionadas a partir de prote\u00ednas presentes en la matriz extracelular de los tejidos.<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>C\u00e9lulas madre mesenquimales<\/h2>\n<p>El proceso R-THAB\u00ae permite crear una uni\u00f3n robusta y estable entre el material y los p\u00e9ptidos, conservando su funcionalidad en ensayos tanto in vitro, con c\u00e9lulas madre mesenquimales, como in vivo, en modelos de rat\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Los ensayos in vitro han demostrado que la adhesi\u00f3n y proliferaci\u00f3n de estas c\u00e9lulas es significativamente mayor en el material modificado que en el titanio desnudo. Adem\u00e1s, la especializaci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas en tejido \u00f3seo se produce con mayor eficiencia, un paso clave para lograr una integraci\u00f3n estable del implante a largo plazo. Los experimentos in vivo tambi\u00e9n han revelado que el nuevo implante induce una menor respuesta inflamatoria.<\/p>\n<p>La especializaci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas en tejido \u00f3seo se produce con mayor eficiencia<\/p>\n<p><a><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Aplicaci\u00f3n en pacientes<\/h2>\n<p>Estos hallazgos confirman que la metodolog\u00eda es una v\u00eda prometedora para mejorar la biocompatibilidad de los implantes met\u00e1licos y avanzar en las terapias de reemplazo de tejido \u00f3seo. Para acercar m\u00e1s este futuro a la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica, la investigaci\u00f3n continuar\u00e1 en colaboraci\u00f3n con el Hospital Gregorio Mara\u00f1\u00f3n de Madrid.
